Sale Swimming Club’s gold wins

Sale Swimming Club has won gold in both the para/able body relays (medley and freestyle) at the Victorian Swimming Country Short Course Championships at Traralgon last month.

The para/able relay event is designed for swimmers with disabilities to swim with able body swimmers in an action-packed handicapped relay.

Sale Swimming Club is an inclusive club with club captains Tara Dihood and Oliver Dyer swimming with multiclass swimmers Mackenzie Gibbs and Max Bassett.

The club has had challenges this year, with the closure of the Aqua Energy indoor swimming pool as part of the redevelopment project, but the club has worked hard with Aqua Energy on a temporary solution to keep the kids training.

Sale Swimming Club was represented by 13 swimmers, Max claiming four individual medals, Mackenzie one individual medal and the para/able with their double gold.

Swimmers also achieved multiple personal best times, and some ranking within the top 10 best overall.

Head coach Steve Allen said “all of our swimmers have had a great time, supported each other and swum amazingly over the whole weekend”.

Victorian Short Course Country Championships brings together swimmers from all over regional Victoria to swim together.
