SALE local Christine Shingles travelled to the very first Warrnambool Pickleball Open on the weekend of February 24 and 25, earning a few medals to take home.
Hosted by the Warrnambool City Pickleball Club at ARC Stadium, more than 300 players entered the tournament.
Shingles first started playing pickleball last year, and was excited to take part in three events at the tournament.
In the ladies doubles age 35+, skill level 3.0 to 3.49, she played with Kirsty Anderson from Werribee, winning Gold.
In mixed doubles age 35+ skill level 3.0 to 3.49, Shingles played with Ben Kerin from Mt Gambier, winning Bronze.
She also won a Silver medal in the women skinny singles (all skill levels, ages 60 and under).
“(It was my) very first time playing in the skinny singles and with some late withdrawals all ages and skill levels were combined,” Shingles said.
“Winning my three-round robin group matches, I then went on to win my semi and quarter-final matches.
“Definitely learned a lot and enjoyed a fantastic weekend.”
