ST Thomas’ Primary School, Sale came third out of 300 teams at the recent Grade 3/4 Hooptime state finals in Melbourne.

The team saw success in Sale and Traralgon earlier this year and progressed to the state finals while playing fantastic basketball throughout the competition. They finished top of their pool and went as far as the quarter final, which they won in a nail-biter against Eltham North by a single point.

The team then went into the semi finals against Rangeview Mitcham, who ended up being too strong for St Thomas and the other schools beating its competition and winning the whole tournament.

Coach Jo Francis said she was very proud of what her team has done.

“The girls were exceptional throughout this competition both on and off the court. They displayed some very good skills, team play and sportsmanship on the court, as well as representing their school with comradery and respect off the court. Every girl had a parent attend and support us which was just incredible,” she said.

The team was made up by the following players: Lyla Matheson, Charlotte Francis, Audrey Wilson, Hunter Lang, Harmynie Lang, Poppy Fowler, Lexi Avery, Scarlett Pini and Addison Morelli.
