ROUND 9 of the Saputo Women’s Midweek T20 competition saw Longford send a timely reminder to the competition.

The Lizards defeated fellow top-three side Rosedale-Kilmany in comprehensive fashion.

Batting first on the Rosedale synthetic, the visitors compiled 2/94 from their allotted overs.

Openers Delwyn Ahern and Sally Guthrie provided a good base, retiring for scores of 25 and 28 respectively.

Both struck in triple figures, with Guthrie going at 133.33 (28 off 21 balls).

Close to 70 runs was compiled by the time the first wicket was taken, which was to be one of only two for the innings.

The lack of wickets may have been attributed to the Warriors being short a few players, as they had three fill ins.

Kirrily Bruce bowled tight, taking 1/6 from two overs.

Bruce then backed up her efforts with the bat, heading out to face the new ball.

The opener did her best to give Rosedale-Kilmany a chance, hitting 25 off 23 balls before retiring.

Regan Leeson helped with 20 runs of her own, but it ended up being the only other double-digit score on the card.

The response started disastrously for the Warriors, who lost a wicket in the second over.

The home side batted out their overs, but had to make do with 7/69.

Ahern completed likely player-of-the-match honours, taking 3/8 off three overs.

Her wicket of Leeson opened up the game, taking the score from 1/50 to 4/51 soon after.

COLLEGIANS won comprehensively on the road.

The travelling side took down Stratford on their home deck in commanding fashion, winning by nine wickets.

The Redbacks compiled 7/73 from their 20 overs, with top-scorers Shani Dixon and Kym Albrecht both retiring on 25.

While their efforts were commendable, Collegians batters Tamara Hall and Teagan Fairbrother were equal to the task, making unbeaten scores of 26 and 27 in reply.

Collegians only lost one wicket on the run home, and with ample time to spare, crossing the total in the 13th over, while Bundalaguah won on forfeit against Sale.

MAFFRA had the bye.

Next Tuesday will see the final round of the women’s competition before the Christmas break.
