Women’s cricketers across Sale-Maffra also got into the Twenty20 spirit on Tuesday night.
The SMCA Women’s Midweek competition moved into Round 6 and saw wins for Bundalaguah, Rosedale-Kilmany and Longford.
The Bulls did a number on Maffra.
Travelling to Cameron Sporting Complex, the visitors elected to bat first upon winning the toss, and duly made 3/85 off their allotted overs.
Skipper Megen Wriggesworth led the way with 26 before retiring, while Harper Grewar (14 not out) and Abigail Taylor (13 retired) also chipped in.
Ella Bransdon had success, taking 2/16.
Unfortunately for the Eagles, the batting capitulated, as the first four bats all made one run each.
A couple of run outs didn’t help the cause, and the old saying that run outs cause collapses appeared to ring true.
Maffra fell well short in the finish (6/39), with Bundalaguah sharing the ball around to give all 11 players a bowl.
ROSEDALE-KILMANY and Collegians played out a competitive game.
College decided to bowl first at home, and saw their opponents close at 5/105.
Kirrily Bruce rescued the innings for Rosedale-Kilmany, coming in at six and smashing 25 off just 10 balls. She was helped along by Olivia Speairs making 21 not out.
Courtney Walker proved hard to get away, and took 3/10 off four overs with a maiden thrown in for good measure.
As good as the bowling may have been for Collegians, the Warriors ultimately found a few more dot balls.
The home side slipped to 3/16, and were playing catch-up from there.
Despite making a decent fist of it, Collegians had to contend with a score of 6/88.
Captain Jazz Anstee did her best with an unbeaten 25 off 37 balls.
Bruce completed a solid game, taking 2/8 off four overs, as well as having a hand in a run out – one of two for the innings.
ANOTHER good game took place between Sale and Longford.
Chasing ended up being a benefit to the Lizards, who snuck home with three balls to spare.
Batting first at Stead Street, the Swans got away to a flyer thanks to Lily-May Lyndon and Marita Fry putting on 91 at the top of the order.
Both retired for scores of 29 and 28 respectively. Matilda Berns continued the flow of runs, making 15 off 22 balls to see the home side to a score of 3/94.
Longford skipper Nicola Thatcher took all three wickets to fall, finishing with 3/14 off four productive overs.
The reply started disastrously for the Lizards, who sunk to 2-9.
Things did not look all that promising when the middle order combined for just 10 runs between them, however, an eventual match-winning knock of 33 not out off 23 balls from Delwyn Ahern saw Longford scamper home in a pulsating climax.
Opener India Dean did a great job negotiating panic stations as wickets fell around her, scoring 19 off 23 balls.
Wickets were shared among Sale bowlers, who could feel very hard done by to lose a game in such fashion.
Michelle Aurish took 2/11.
Stratford had the bye.
