SEVERAL Wellington Athletic Club athletes recently travelled from Gippsland to Doncaster to compete in the final Victorian Milers Club meet for the season.
This event was the last chance to race and achieve qualifying times to compete in the Australian Junior Athletics Championships, currently taking place in Brisbane.
Wellington Athletic Club has 11 athletes who have qualified to represent Victoria in individual events at these national championships.
Some astounding results were recorded throughout the meet.
17-year-old Elly Fleming led the charge by breaking the 2:10 barrier for the first time, recording 2:09.06 to move up to #2 on the all-time Gippsland Track Club 800m rankings.
Fleming has been in outstanding form throughout the season, consistently recording personal best times at race meets, and has slashed over seven seconds from her personal-best time going into the season in October 2022.
15-year-old Cassie Farley had a big breakthrough performance to win the C-Grade 1500m, clocking both a national open and underage qualifying time.
Farley also shot up the GTC all-time 1500m rankings to #4, having taken over 15 seconds off her previous best performance.
13-year-old Kaydence Fleming stepped-up in distance to the 800m to record a national qualifying time and a personal best of 2:22.12, while 15-year-old Rhylee Stewart continued his red-hot form to also clock a personal best and national qualifying time of 2:03.86.
