Victory by a very familiar name in racing highlighted the Sale Turf Club’s mid-week meeting on Wednesday.

Invincible Caviar, daughter of Black Caviar, won the penultimate race at Sale, taking out the Race 7 Carlton Draught BM70 Handicap over 1208 metres.

Just like old times, Luke Nolen was in the saddle, keeping the Caviar name alive and well.

Nolen famously rode Black Caviar to 22 of her 25 consecutive wins, and her daughter now has two wins and a third.

The Sale meeting was the first for the four-year-old mare in 409 days.

Invincible Caviar held off a late charge from Blistering, ridden by Trafalgar jockey Jason Maskiell, to take victory after jumping from barrier five.

The final margin was three quarters of a length, ran on a track rated a ‘Soft 5’.

The win wasn’t all that unexpected, as Invincible Caviar went in starting price favourite at $3.10.

Speaking post-race, trainer Peter Moody said her signs had been encouraging.

“We can push on and start lifting the bar, slowly, slowly,” he told racing.com.

“She’s not her mother and we respect that.”

In her career to date, Invincible Caviar has placed third on debut and won another maiden at Sale.

Understandably, the stable does not want to put unfair expectations on the mare given the exploits of her famous mother.

Black Caviar has produced seven folds since retiring in 2013, with Invincible Caviar showing the most promise.

Others to have raced are Oscietra, Prince of Caviar and I Am Caviar.

The latter raced twice last month, but failed to place.
