Lions and Parrots remain undefeated

MOE and Leongatha maintained their perfect winning records to begin the Gippsland League netball season.

The Lions roared to a 62-32 win at home over Sale.

Moe held sway by four goals at the first change before grabbing a stranglehold of the contest during the second term. The Lions then scored 35 goals to 15 in the second half.

Goal shooter Taylin Gourley, who scored 55 goals for Moe, was best-on-court, with Jordan Pyle a fine performer in defence.

Centre Tori Dessent never stopped trying for Sale, with goal defence Kasey Dessent and Jenny Wrigglesworth other solid contributors.

Leongatha thrashed Maffra 73-29.

The Parrots were devastating in attack with the one-two combination of Jessica Edgar and Hannah Flanders in sublime form. Edgar scored 45 goals and Flanders contributed 23.

Morgan Mayne was Maffra’s best player.

Warragul had a thrilling 38-32 victory over Traralgon to keep the Gulls in third place on the ladder.

Wonthaggi edged out the win-less Bairnsdale 49-32, while Drouin and Morwell drew 37-37, with the sides remaining in fifth and fourth places respectively.
