Police have confirmed they are investigating a car crash which occurred on Punt Lane, Sale, on Tuesday near TAFE Gippsland.
Officers have been told the driver lost control of her Holden ute, hit a tree and rolled the car. Police were told the incident occurred around 6.15pm, but eyewitnesses told the Gippsland Times it was around 6pm.
This reporter was on the scene sometime after 7pm while the car was still on its side. Emergency services had arrived and police were managing the traffic.
Officers on the scene declined to comment.
The female driver was taken to hospital with minor injuries. Police media the following day told the Gippsland Times an investigation into the crash was ongoing.
The vehicle, which had extensive damage including a lost wheel, had gone through a residential property’s brick fence. The vehicle was eventually flipped back on its wheels and taken away sometime after 7.45pm.
Sale local Bob McKenzie said he was on the property’s back verandah when the crash occurred. He said the car was driving at “high speed”, and one of the wheels had fallen off during the incident.
“I heard it hit (the tree), and when I turned to look at what happened, she’s coming through the fence and then, bang…it was a big bang,” he said.
The vehicle’s tyre tracks were visible from when the vehicle went from Punt Lane onto the traffic island, the tree and eventually the property.
Nobody in or at the house was harmed.
