Sale Film Society’s first 2024 screening

Mushroom Records founder Michael Gudinski.

SALE Film Society meets for its first screening of the year this Wednesday at The Wedge. Ushering in the 2024 schedule is Ego: The Michael Gudinski Story, a feature-length documentary profiling an eccentric, influential and much-loved figure of the Australian music scene.

Michael Gudinski is the founder of Mushroom Records, a label which found huge success through bands such as Skyhooks, Ted Mulry Gang, Split Enz and Jo Jo Zep & The Falcons.

He then went on to become a promoter and tour organiser, before dying in 2021 at the age of 68.

This documentary had its world premiere at last year’s Melbourne International Film Festival, earning widespread acclaim and a subsequent theatrical release.

Ego screens tomorrow from 7.30pm, with drinks available at Shirley’s Café and Bar from 7pm.

Entry is free to Society members and $10 to non-members.

Founded in 2017, the Sale Film Society aims to showcase independent, arthouse and classic movies to cinephiles in the Wellington Shire.
