Due to planned Metro and V/Line works, coaches replace some evening Gippsland Line trains for all or part of the journey at various times, beginning last Sunday, November 12 and finishing Thursday, November 23, with even more disruptions planned after that.
Work to continue preparing the Gippsland Line for a new signalling system will take place alongside V/Line maintenance while coaches replace trains for the entire journey (between Southern Cross, Traralgon and Bairnsdale) from Friday, November 24 to Saturday, December 9.
Replacement coaches will not stop at Flinders Street, Richmond, Caulfield, Clayton, Dandenong and Berwick stations.
The state government says during this time, the team behind the Regional Rail Revival project will:
Run signalling cable along the line;
Install new signal equipment rooms in multiple locations;
Undertake track formation works in Bunyip and Longwarry, and;
Build a pedestrian path to connect the new and upgraded car parks at Bunyip Station.
Meanwhile, V/Line crews will install box culverts to allow water to flow under the line without interrupting services.
The state government says the new signalling system, in conjunction with track works and station upgrades as part of the Gippsland Line Upgrade, will enable more services and future-proof the line.
