THE Gippsland Times received an anonymous call last week about larvae and maggots being spotted in the Old Nurses Ward of the Sale Hospital.
This newspaper reached out to Sale Hospital, who said that fly larvae was detected in the area but it affected only a minor area. However, the building was closed last weekend to fumigate the area.
The next day (Thursday, October 26) the Gippsland Times received another phone call that a team was clearing the area, supposedly removing large quantities of fly larvae and maggots, and another call last Friday about black mould. These claims however remain unverified.
Central Gippsland Health chief executive Mark Dykgraaf said a minor pest issue is being resolved.
“Bee larvae was detected within an area of the Community Services Building last week. Affected rooms were vacated and areas thoroughly cleaned. This incident did not affect and continues to have no impact on patient care areas,” he said.
“We are now working with pest control specialists to continue to resolve the issue.”
