Safety boosted by UV treatment at Maffra water plant

AN ultraviolet (UV) disinfection system has been installed at the Maffra water treatment plant for an extra layer of protection, Gippsland Water has announced.

The $970,000 system was turned on in mid-July and provides an additional layer of disinfection in the water treatment process.

UV disinfection is a powerful tool that works by using ultraviolet light to disrupt microorganism growth, function and reproduction.

The system is used alongside filtration and other treatments. UV treatment also has no impact on the taste of water.

The Maffra water treatment plant draws water from the Macalister River and services more than 8000 people across Maffra and Stratford.
