Truck driver arrested

POLICE say they have arrested the driver of a fully laden 65-tonne, B-double prime mover, after he was allegedly seen driving dangerously heading east on the Princes Highway on Wednesday, September 13.

Following reports from the public, police later located the semi-trailer jack-knifed on a bush road with the driver inside the car.

A 43-year-old Merbein man was struck with 15 charges in total. Further charges are expected to be laid and the driver will appear before the Sale Magistrates’ Court on January 23, 2024.

Struck by vehicle

AT about 5pm on Monday, September 11, a 16-year-old female was riding her mountain bike in the carpark of IGA Sale when she was struck by a vehicle that allegedly left the scene without stopping and providing assistance or exchanging details.

People who observed the collision or have any dashcam footage should contact Senior Constable Joshua Deschepper from Sale Police on 5142 2200.

Erratic driving in Maffra

POLICE are calling for any witnesses who may have seen a dark-coloured Ford Falcon driving dangerously down Powerscourt Street, Maffra at about 8.45am on Wednesday, September 13.

The vehicle was then driven across the verge to get onto the Stratford-Maffra Rd. It then continued to drive dangerously through Stratford, overtaking vehicles on the Avon River Bridge.

People who have seen this vehicle or have any dashcam footage of the vehicle driving erratically should contact Senior Constable D’Arcy at the Maffra Police Station on 5147 1026.

 

Incident at Woodside Football/Netball Club

ON Saturday, September 9, police say an alleged assault occurred at the Woodside Football/Netball Club club rooms.

Police are appealing to anyone who witnessed or has any information relating to the incident to contact Senior Constable Da Silva at Yarram Police on 5182 5033.

Police motorcycle rammed in Bairnsdale

EAST Gippsland Crime Investigation Unit detectives charged a 27-year-old man after a collision with a police motorcycle in Bairnsdale on Saturday, September 16.

A Paynesville man has been charged with nine charges including drive in a manner dangerous, intentionally expose emergency worker to risk by driving, conduct endangering life, assault police, damage to emergency services vehicle and other related offences.

He was remanded to appear at Sale Magistrates’ Court on Monday, September 18.

The collision occurred at the intersection of Forge Creek Road and Racecourse Road just after midday.

It is alleged a car rammed a police motorcycle, throwing the officer to the ground. The driver was then intercepted by a second police motorcycle and arrested. The male police officer was taken to hospital with minor injuries.

LATE last month at the Gippsland Centre, Wellington Police Service area members hosted a ‘Coffee With a Cop’ event.

Police say there was great attendance by the local community, and were thankful for the chat and cuppa.
