Motorised bikes impounded
On Friday July 14, police say a group of youths were spoken to by police after a number of reports from members of the public regarding them riding motorised push bikes around the Sale area, including on the roadway and through parks where a number of young children had been playing.
Police spoke at length with the youths regarding the use of these bikes including where they could and couldn’t be ridden. A number of complaints had been received and they spoke about the lack of brakes and safety equipment on the bikes.
Police said the youths stated that they understood and had sourced some private farmland where they were permitted to ride. They were informed that if they were caught riding them around town again the bikes would be impounded.
On Sunday July 16, police again received a number of calls regarding youths riding motorised push bikes around the sale township and through the velodrome area where a dog training school was being held with around 80 dogs and persons present.
Police attended and spoke with two of the same youths that they had spoken to just two days prior. Both youths stated that they were aware that they weren’t suppose to be riding around town.
According to police, the parents of the youths were spoken to and were very supportive of police, stating that they had told their children a number of times not to ride them around town and only on the private property where they were permitted – otherwise they would have their bikes taken off them by police.
On this occasion police impounded both bikes for a period of 30 days.
