Have your say on gambling and liquor reform

A PARLIAMENTARY committee wants to hear from the public as it reviews two Victorian Auditor-General’s reports.

The Public Accounts and Estimates Committee (PAEC) has launched a follow-up inquiry into Regulating gambling and liquor (2019) and Reducing the harm caused by gambling (2021).

“This inquiry will be examining the recommendations of both reports and specific matters such as licensing, compliance and gambling harm,” Committee Chair Sarah Connolly said.

“We’ll also be looking at regulating and reducing the harm caused by online applications, but not gambling at Crown Melbourne.”

The Committee is especially interested in hearing from regional Victorians, Culturally and Linguistically Diverse and Indigenous communities, young people and those experiencing social isolation.

“We know these cohorts are disproportionately affected by problem gambling,” Ms Connolly said.

Victorians can make a submission by the closing date of July 7, 2023.

The Committee plans to hold public hearings in late July and report to parliament in late November 2023.

PAEC conducts follow-up inquiries on selected Victorian Auditor-General audits and reviews.

Follow-up inquiries look at the progress made implementing recommendations, identify any issues with implementation and investigate new issues that may have emerged since the original report was tabled.

The inquiries also allow PAEC to make recommendations that will improve specific areas of public administration and accountability.
