Briag altercation investigated

POLICE are investigating the circumstances surrounding an incident in Briagolong on Thursday, February 16.

It is believed a male and female had a physical altercation near Blue Pool, Briagolong about 2pm.

Police are keen to speak to anyone that may have witnessed the incident, or captured the incident on dashcam or video.

Stolen property located in Jack River

ON Wednesday, February 15, Bass Coast Crime Investigation Unit, along with police from Foster and Yarram, executed multiple search warrants and allegedly located a significant amount of stolen property, including a stolen Toyota Hilux and trailer at a Jack River address.

All items are linked to a series of burglaries that have occurred in the South Gippsland area over the past month.

A 30-year-old male was arrested at the scene and a 33-year-old male was arrested in the bush nearby a short time later. Both men have been charged and will face court in June.

 

Impound for excessive speed in Rosedale

SALE Police patrolling the Rosedale area on the morning of February 17 detected a driver going 70 km/h over the 80 km/h-posted speed zone, all because they were late for work.

Unfortunately they didn’t make it to work in time because they were intercepted and their car towed at a cost of $1115 and impounded for 30 days.

The driver of this vehicle is also facing a loss of licence for 12 months and various other fines in excess of $1000.

During this same morning, another driver was observed driving at 93km/h through the main street of Rosedale, which is posted as 60km/h. This driver is facing a loss of licence for three months and a $601 fine.

 

Maffra Police intercept vehicle with no plates

ON the afternoon of Friday, February 10, Maffra Police say they noticed a utility with no plates leave an address in Maffra, and subsequently took evasive action to avoid interception.

The vehicle was monitored and cordoned with the assistance of Briagolong Police and Wellington Highway Patrol.

Maffra Police eventually intercepted the vehicle in Bundalaguah.

The driver was allegedly on two counts of bail not to drive a motor vehicle and was arrested for breaches of bail.

He was later remanded to appear in court for charges of Breaching Conditions of Bail, Evading Police, Driving Unlicensed, Driving Unregistered Motor Vehicle, and Failure to Display Plates.

Criminal damage charge in Heyfield

HEYFIELD Police have charged a 20-year-old male from the Pearsondale area with Criminal Damage and discharge of a missile in relation to a police vehicle being damaged in the vicinity of the Railway Hotel, Heyfield on January 20.

The male was bailed to appear at the Sale Magistrates’ Court at a later date.

 

Fatal collision in Tanjil South

A MAN has lost his life following a crash in Tanjil South on Monday afternoon

It is understood a man was driving south along Moe-Willow Grove Road when his vehicle struck a tree just before 11.50am.

The man, who is yet to be formally identified, died at the scene.

He was the only occupant inside the vehicle.

Police are continuing to establish the exact circumstances of the collision and investigations are ongoing.
