WELLINGTON Shire has received a $1 million state government grant to develop land north of Sale.
The announcement was made by Minister for Regional Development, Harriet Shing, and Member for Eastern Victoria, Tom McIntosh, last month.
Funds will be provided to the “North Sale Wetland and Biodiversity Reserve Project” as part of the grant.
The project will see works undertaken to facilitate the continued residential development by providing an additional storm-water retention and treatment, and secure up to 500 lots of affordable housing.
Additionally, money will go towards the design and development of a new wetland reserve, which promises to “provide necessary treatment to reduce pollutant loads which ultimately feed into Flooding Creek”.
It is one of 38 projects in Victoria granted money as part of the state government’s Regional Infrastructure Fund and Investment Fast Track Fund.
“The Regional Jobs and Infrastructure Fund is part of our record investment to help communities to grow,” Ms Shing said.
“(The) 38 new projects we are funding will create jobs and fantastic facilities for regional and rural Victoria.”
The North Sale project is also one of six in Eastern Victoria to be given funding, which Mr McIntosh has warmly welcomed.
“I’m delighted to announce support for these local projects to help our towns and regions reach their full potential with more jobs and exciting projects,” Mr McIntosh said.
