ON Saturday October 15 at about 5.30 pm, Wellington Highway Patrol allegedly detected a Ford Ranger utility travelling at 75 kilometres per hour in a 60km/h zone.

Police allege when the vehicle was intercepted it was found to be driven by a 28-year-old female learner driver who was not accompanied by a fully-licensed driver and also had six children in the vehicle aged between one and 12 years old.

Wellington Highway Patrol detected this Ford Ranger utility allegedly travelling at 75 kilometres an hour in a 60km/h zone on October 15.

Police said there were no child seats in the vehicle and the one-year-old child was restrained only by being held by another child.

“The female driver didn’t think that it was such a bad thing as she was only taking them to the shops to get fish and chips (and then) back home,” police said on social media.

“All parents of the children were notified and attended to collect their children. The vehicle was impounded for 30 days at a cost of $995 and the driver will be summonsed to court to face a number of charges,” a police Facebook post said.

Business burgled in Rosedale

ON August 28 at about 4am, police allege a burglary occurred at a business in Rosedale.

Police believe a person may be able to assist with inquiries in regards to an incident where a business allegedly had its rear door jemmied open and cash was taken out of its till.

The male was wearing a distinctive black Everlast hooded jumper.

Have you seen this caravan, stolen from Stratford?

Police say this caravan was stolen from a property in Freemans Lane, Stratford, after locks had been cut.

BETWEEN October 4 and October 11, police say a caravan (pictured) was stolen from a property in Freemans Lane, Stratford, after locks were cut.

The caravan is a Future Systems, Breo 460 model, white with a maroon stripe that is peeling slightly in a section. It has a nine-kilogram gas cylinder on the drawbar and spare tyre mounted underneath at the rear. The access door has a broken lock and jemmy marks from a previous attempt to gain entry.

Wellington police attend Upswing Festival at Port

ON October 14, Wellington Police LGBITQ+ liaison officers attended the Upswing Festival at the Port of Sale.

The event was organised by the Wellington Shire Youth Council with a focus on youth, positive mental health and celebrating ways young people can be involved in our local community and the importance of their well being.

Lost bike in Maffra

ON September 11, a grey Norco mountain bicycle was left at the Maffra Police Station.

Police said that as of October 14 no-one had collected the bike.

Don’t give crime a free ride

LOCH Sport Neighbourhood Watch and Wellington Police will be hosted an anti-theft, number-plate screws day on Sunday October 30 at the Loch Sport CFA – National Park Road, Loch Sport from 9am-12pm.

Offenders often use stolen plates to avoid identification when committing serious offences such as petrol thefts, drug trafficking and burglary.

Community safety day

ON October 11 morning, police hosted a Wellington Community Safety Day, a gathering of emergency services from the Wellington area, water police, Wellington Highway Patrol and RAAF military police.

Police said there was great attendance from emergency services as well as the Wellington community, and thanked all who attended, and the Sale Lions Club for providing both a jumping castle and sausage sizzle.

Police warn of thefts from unlocked vehicles

POLICE are appealing to residents to lock their vehicles when left unattended or parked at home overnight, following an increase of thefts from unlocked vehicles in the Bairnsdale area.

Also being investigated are several instances of a stolen car taunting police during routine patrols in Bairnsdale and Paynesville.
