WELLINGTON Shire Council recognised the contribution of Lyndon Webb during its meeting on Tuesday night.

Mr Webb, who was council chief executive from 2001 to 2009, died on March 2.

Mayor Garry Stephens said Mr Webb made a significant contribution to Wellington Shire during his time at chief executive.

“He achieved a number of positive outcomes, things like restructuring our corporate plan, conducting lobbying with various levels of government,” he said.

“One of the major outcomes, if not the major outcome, was the agreement that the federal government would relocate the RAAF officer training college to East Sale.”

Cr Stephens said Mr Webb worked to strengthen council’s relationship with the community, and established strong connections with other councils, educational institutions and organisations such as Central Gippsland Health.

“He helped change the face of the area through delivery of landmark projects such as the Wellington Entertainment Centre, the Port of Sale, Aqua Energy and Rosedale Community Centre,” he said.

Having been recognised for council’s webcasting of meetings with a state award in 2002, Mr Webb worked hard to ensure staff improved their skills and had strong job satisfaction.

“He consistently achieved over $40 million in government grant funding over any three-year period,” Cr Stephens said.

“Lyndon was a very strong member of our community, he continued to serve our community after retired.”
