ROTARY Club of Maffra recently held a very successful ‘Meet and Greet’ afternoon on August 13.

The event was held at Duart Homestead, with the chef presenting a lovely selection of sandwiches and cakes to 20 guests and Rotarians.

District Governor, Linda Humphries, Past District Governor Mark Humphries and Acting President Ted Mitchell all gave inspiring speeches about the value of Rotary in the world and the benefits of being a Rotarian.

Wellington Shire councillor Carolyn Crossley also spoke about the value of volunteering and the struggle that many organisations are facing in order to attract volunteers. She thanked the members of the Rotary Club of Maffra for the work they do.

Mr Humphries, who is also Rotary Foundation Chair, presented Ted Mitchell and Veronica Dwyer with a plaque in recognition of the club’s annual donation to the Rotary Foundation.

Funds from the Foundation are used for world-wide projects, such as providing clean drinking water to school children in developing countries and the End Polio campaign, which is getting very close to eradicating polio from the world.

The afternoon was enjoyable and constructive, with a lot of interest in Rotary and the Friends of Rotary program.
