Art, music at Bond Street

BOND Street Event Centre in Sale is set to host Dyarni Sharman’s exhibition My Culture, My Art.

Dyarni is a young contemporary First Nations artist with Wongatha, Noongar and Yamitji heritage on her paternal side from Western Australia, and Yuin heritage on her maternal side from the Jervis Bay area.

She spent her early years in a remote community several hundred kilometres north-east of Kalgoorlie, on the edge of the Great Victoria Desert, and has made trips to New South Wales to spend time on Country with extended family.

Dyarni’s autism and other big health challenges give her works uniqueness of perspective and colour.

Her creations are a strong and important part of her connection to her Indigenous cultural heritage with the colours, landscapes, animals and flora of both the desert and the ocean providing inspiration for many of her works.

Dyarni has been living on Gunaikurnai Country for the past four years and is excited to have her work exhibited and for sale at Bond Street Event Centre.

A launch of the exhibition My Culture, My Art will take place on Thursday, October 20 from 6pm.

There will be a gold coin entrance fee to view the exhibition and light refreshments provided.

Work by Dyarni Sharman will be shown at Bond St Event Centre.

Bond Street Event Centre is also hosting night of roots music with Bill Jackson in November.

Jackson is fighting the good fight, and has been doing it a long time. He’s a true folkie, in the Pete Seeger, Woody Guthrie and Joan Baez tradition; reminding us of our better selves, prompting our conscience and reminding us to give a damn about the unconscionable happenings in our world.

In touring Australia, the United States and elsewhere, Jackson has garnered legions of fans – including former Goanna frontman Shane Howard, who describes his songs as “gritty and real”.

Jackson will be performing at Bond Street Event Centre on Friday, November 4 from 8pm. He will also host a song-writing workshop starting at 5.30pm.

Admission for the workshop costs $30, the performance $20.

For tickets, go to www.bondstreeteventcentre.com or phone David on 5182 8770.
