It is believed the victim was assaulted, in an alleged unprovoked attack, by the man on York Street about 3.30pm.

Investigators were told that the victim had asked the man to move as he was standing too close when it is alleged the man struck the victim to the left side of her face, the impact causing the victim to fall to the ground and hit her head.

A Sale man handed himself into police later that day.

The 20-year-old man has been charged with recklessly causing injury and unlawful assault.

He was bailed to appear before Sale Magistrate’s Court on September 12.
