On Monday, former Gippsland Grammar student Paige Barr (class of 2019) won a gold medal in the ‘Women’s 8+’ event at the World Rowing World Cup 2 at Lake Varese in Italy.
Gippsland Grammar director of Rowing Nick Bartlett, who watched the race at the school’s Garnsey Campus on Monday morning, said it was a fantastic race by Paige and her teammates, as their boat powered down the course for a convincing win.
“Having worked with Paige for her final season of school rowing, it has been so fantastic to see her continue her rowing journey in the Rowing Australia team,” Bartlett said.
“Her work ethic, passion and desire to succeed in the sport are all traits that are on show in her performance in this race. All our students should feel so much pride and encouragement from seeing her on the top step of the podium.
“I can’t wait to see her competing at World Cup 3 and the World Championships later this year, and everyone in the Gippsland Grammar Community will be cheering her on.”
