WELLINGTON Athletic Club was represented by 16 athletes at the Victorian State Track and Field Championships, held at Lakeside Stadium in Albert Park earlier this year.

Many personal best times were recorded as local juniors pitted themselves against the state’s best.

Gold medals were awarded to two state champions: U18 runner Elly Fleming and U14 sprinter Lachlan Rosato.

Fleming won the 800m with an impressive time of 2:10.73 (a personal best), while Lachlan brought home the double with personal best times in the 200m (25.68) and 400m (55.33).

Silver medals and personal best performances were achieved by U15 competitors Cassie Farley in the 800m (2:19.01) and Grace Graafsma in the 1500m (4:41.71). Kaydence Fleming also won silver, in both the 400m (59.12) and Long Jump (4.98m).

Bronze medals were awarded to U18 400m sprinter Antje Kempff (60.89) and one of the club’s newest members, U14 Sullivan Jennings in the Long Jump (4.45m).

All of the above athletes achieved qualifying times for the Australian Junior Athletic Championships, currently underway in Brisbane, where they are representing Victoria – an outstanding achievement from one of the smallest athletic clubs in the state.

Gippsland Track Club coaches Denis and Craig Huffer have trained all of the Wellington Athletic Club competitors and supported them in reaching their potential; the club is to be very proud of the efforts and achievements of all their members.
